WLOS — BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. -- Buncombe County's handgun permit application is now available online.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is now using Permitium’s Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) online application, which can be accessed from its webpage. Click here to visit the application online.
Permitium will be used to manage the application and fingerprint appointment scheduling of the concealed handgun permitting process, cutting down on the applicant wait-time for an appointment.
Applicants are charged a convenience fee of $4, plus a credit card fee of $3, and additional tax. Permits can also renewed online, with a renewal fee of $75, a convenience fee of $4, plus the credit card fee and taxes.

Issuance of the concealed handgun permit averages 93 days, as it involves a criminal history and medical background investigation.
“We have seen an increase in the number of Buncombe County residents applying for their concealed carry permit,” said Sheriff Van Duncan. “This application will help us expedite the process for residents seeking this type of permit, and deliver service in a more efficient way.”
Potential CHP applicants still must first show a certificate from an approved North Carolina concealed-carry class and pay the non-refundable $90 application fee.
