One of the most beneficial programs OWWA offers to OFWs is the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP), an OWWA scholarship for their dependents/beneficiaries. It’s a scholarship grant provided to the dependents of active OWWA members who are enrolling or are already studying in a university or college. The OWWA EDSP Scholarship Program offers financial assistance per school year to qualified beneficiaries until they finish their 4 to 5 years baccalaureate course.

Through the EDSP Scholarship Program, OWWA can help the families of OFWs to finish their education or alleviate financial burdens. However, the EDSP Scholarship Program is only for one dependent or family of active OWWA members. The qualified beneficiary who accessed the EDSP Scholarship Program will no longer be allowed to avail of other scholarship programs. With that said, keep reading to find out how to apply for OWWA EDSP Scholarship Program, the requirements, qualifications, and terms and conditions for application.

What is EDSP Scholarship Program?

The EDSP stands for Education for Development Scholarship Program, a scholarship grant for qualified beneficiaries/dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) offers this program to active members with dependents enrolling or taking 4 to 5-year baccalaureate courses in their chosen college/university. Under the program, qualified beneficiaries will receive a P60,000 maximum of financial assistance per school year until they finish their baccalaureate course.

In addition, the EDSP Scholarship Program offers 400 slots for incoming freshmen (1st-year college). OWWA also allotted 600 slots for beneficiaries who are in a university or college. The beneficiaries of active OWWA members should take the national qualifying exam conducted by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). Then, the allotted slot for incoming 1st-year college is from the top 400 passers of the exam. Remember, qualified beneficiaries should meet varying requirements and responsibilities to qualify for the EDSP Scholarship Program.

Most of all, the financial assistance continues until the beneficiaries finish their 4 to 5 years baccalaureate course, regardless of the OFWs OWWA membership status but should comply with the Scholarship Agreement.
